I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and New Year! I was tired when I woke up this morning, but all that melted away when your kids came in smiling and ready to go--they give me all the energy I need! We were all a little sleepy but ready to be back!
We jumped STRAIGHT back into things today! Man, oh man can I brag about these kids all day, every day! Many classes, especially younger kinder-aged ones, take a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things, but I'm amazed at how wonderful they were today! What a great day of super choices and kind actions towards one another. I was very impressed with their ability to get right back into their routines! What rockstars!
Just a couple things as we head into this cold winter week...
PLEASE continue sending all winter gear to school. Unfortunately, we may have a few days of inside recess until the wind chill pokes back above zero. I still want them to be prepared for dismissal, even if we aren't outside before lunch. Thank you!
I sent home January book orders today! They're due back January the 29th and I will submit them no later than the 31st. Please keep in mind that your order will not be officially submitted by ME until the 31st so the classroom can gain as many reward points as possible. Again, totally optional :)
Tomorrow the kids will bring home their January STEM homework! I realize that, in the midst of the crazy schedules, I did not send homework in December. We'll jump back in with a super fun family STEM project to build something that floats! You have a couple weeks to put something together with your kindergartener. These projects are so fun to come back, and we WILL test them out in the classroom! Thank you again for your continued support from home.
In addition to this homework, Mrs. Smisek is going to help me start sending home sight word flashcards with each student. They will take home 3-4 words at a time. Please work on these with your child at home and keep the flash cards until they are MASTERED! This might take two nights and it might take a week--either are fine! When they bring the cards back, either Mrs. Smisek or I will assess them on the 4 words and send them home new ones if they've got them down. We've worked on many beginning sight words in the classroom, and now that they have a good handle on how to work on them, we'll start sending things home! The kids will all start at different places--Mrs. Smisek will assess them and see which ones the already know and we'll soar on from there! You'll be amazed at how much this will help them with their reading.
That's all for now! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
